On January 1, 1933, the Japanese army launched a large-scale assault on Shanhaiguan Pass. Chinese forces resisted fiercely, marking the beginning of the Defence of the Great Wall.
On January 26, 1933, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) issued instructions to the CPC Manchuria Provincial Committee, proposing the strategy of organizing a national anti-Japanese united front in Northeast China.
