Steel box girder closure completed for record-width Yangtze River bridge in central China

Photo taken on July 26, 2025 shows the final steel box girder being precisely installed on the Shuangliu Yangtze River Bridge, marking the completion of the main span closure. Invested by Hubei Communications Investment Group and constructed by China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group and CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company, the bridge now enters the stage of auxiliary works. As a key segment of the Wuhan metropolitan ring expressway within the national highway network, the 35.043-kilometer-long Shuangliu Yangtze River Bridge project is designed for speeds up to 120 km/h. Connecting Xinzhou District in Wuhan and Huarong District in Ezhou, the bridge adopts an eight-lane, two-way configuration and is currently the widest steel box girder suspension bridge under construction on the Yangtze River.
