China activates emergency response for flood control in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei

BEIJING, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Water Resources on Tuesday activated a Level-IV emergency response for flood control in Beijing and neighboring Tianjin Municipality and Hebei Province, in anticipation of heavy rainfall.

According to meteorological forecasts, parts of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, located in north China, will experience heavy to torrential rain from Tuesday to Thursday.

Some rivers in the Haihe River Basin, including the Daqing River and Yongding River, are likely to see rising water levels, with some small and medium-sized rivers in storm-hit areas facing the risk of floods exceeding warning levels.

The ministry has urged local authorities to closely monitor rainfall and flood conditions, strengthen forecasts and early warning alerts, safeguard against mountain torrents and urban waterlogging, promptly relocate residents at risk, and ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

The ministry has maintained the Level-IV emergency response for flood control in the provincial-level regions of Liaoning, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan.

Liaoning is in northeast China while Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan are in the country's southwest. Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan are all located in south China.
