Russia closes Polish consulate in Kaliningrad in reciprocal move

MOSCOW, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Russia revoked the permit for the operation of Poland's Consulate General in Kaliningrad on Friday, local media reported.

According to the TASS news agency, the measure was taken in response to Poland's earlier decision to shut down the Russian Consulate General in Krakow, a move that took effect on June 30.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Poland had been notified of Moscow's intention to close the Polish consulate as early as July 11, with the relevant justifications delivered to Poland's charge d'affaires.

"Such steps are a reaction to the reduction of Russia's consular presence in Poland under far-fetched pretexts. Not a single unfriendly move will remain unanswered," the ministry was quoted by TASS as saying.
