TRIPOLI, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Libya's National Oil Corporation announced on Wednesday a new oil discovery in central Libya's Sirte Basin.
In a statement published on its official website, the National Oil Corporation said that the oil discovery was made by the Austrian company OMV's Libya branch, adding that it marks the company's first exploration activity in the area.
The test results showed that the exploratory well produces more than 4,200 barrels of oil per day, while natural gas production exceeds 2.6 million cubic feet per day, the statement said.
The OMV had previously announced in late 2023 the resumption of its exploratory drilling operations in its concession area in the Sirte Basin after a suspension of nearly 13 years. ■
