WINDHOEK, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Egypt and Namibia are seeking to expand bilateral cooperation in key sectors including green hydrogen and renewable energy, agriculture and infrastructure development, healthcare, education and value addition, an official said on Tuesday.

Namibia's Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) said in a statement that the commitment was underscored during a courtesy visit by Egypt's Ambassador to Namibia Ramia Shawky to Namibian Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare on Monday.

According to the statement, the meeting highlighted the long-standing friendship between Egypt and Namibia, rooted in Egypt's support for Namibia's liberation struggle in the 1960s and formalized through the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1990.

Discussions also focused on agro-processing, infrastructure development, the medical and pharmaceutical sector, capacity building and trade facilitation, the OPM said.

On regional and international issues, Ngurare reiterated Namibia's principled stance on respect for territorial integrity and condemned actions that undermine sovereignty, it said.

The engagement was attended by senior government officials, including deputy ministers responsible for international relations, trade, and education, as well as ministers overseeing justice, labour relations, and agriculture, fisheries, water, and land reform. ■
