BUCHAREST, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Romania will soon deploy an anti-drone system to strengthen its airspace defense, Chief of Defense Staff General Gheorghita Vlad announced Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference in Sibiu, Vlad said Romanian forces have already completed training for the teams that will operate the U.S.-made Merops system, which will be integrated "very soon" into ongoing air defense operations across the country.
Merops, which uses artificial intelligence to detect and intercept hostile drones, is one of several counter-drone systems being tested by member states of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). ■
