
BEIJING — China's total retail sales of consumer goods, a major indicator of the country's consumption strength, reached 50.12 trillion yuan (about 7.15 trillion U.S. dollars) in 2025, up 3.7 percent year on year, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The contribution rate of final consumption expenditure to economic growth stood at 52 percent, up 5 percentage points from the previous year, underscoring consumption's role as the primary engine of economic growth.
China's consumer market in 2025 featured four key highlights, including robust growth in durable goods consumption, steady expansion of daily consumer goods, rising demand for upgraded products, and emerging momentum in new consumption formats, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
