China's agricultural growth boosts output value and improves people's livelihoods in 2025

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, in 2025, China's grain output reached approximately 714.9 million tonnes, up 8.4 million tonnes from the previous year, remaining above the 700 million-tonne mark for a second straight year.

Agricultural modernization continued to accelerate, with the contribution of scientific and technological progress surpassing 64 percent and the mechanization rate of crop cultivation and harvesting climbing to 76.7 percent. The country’s agricultural drone fleet expanded beyond 300,000 units, covering more than 460 million mu, or 30.67 million hectares, annually.

Meanwhile, value-added output from major agricultural and sideline food processors grew 5.6 percent year on year, as emerging sectors such as rural tourism and e-commerce fueled job creation and income growth. Rural residents saw a 6 percent real-term rise in per capita disposable income.

Living standards in rural areas also improved, with sanitary toilet coverage reaching about 77 percent alongside continued upgrades to infrastructure and public services, including education, healthcare, and elderly care.

China also strengthened the consolidation of poverty alleviation achievements, as 832 counties developed two to three leading industries with strong spillover effects and employment for more than 30 million formerly impoverished workers remained stable for a fifth consecutive year.
