JAKARTA, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's central bank said it will expand its QRIS cross-border payment service to Saudi Arabia and India to facilitate transactions for Indonesians abroad and support international tourism and travel.

Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo said the expansion will facilitate transactions for Indonesian umrah and hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia as well as Indian tourists visiting Indonesia.

"Following our cooperation with Japan, China, and South Korea, we seek your support as we expand to Saudi Arabia for umrah and hajj pilgrims and to India for Indian tourists," Perry said on Wednesday.

First introduced in 2019, Indonesia's QRIS (Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard) integrates various payment platforms into a single standardized system, enabling interoperability across banks and digital wallets.
