China's rapid development in artificial intelligence and the digital economy has created new opportunities for cooperation across the Asia-Pacific region, said Ichwan Makmur Nasution, head of the Centre for International Affairs at Indonesia's Ministry of Communications and Informatics, in an interview with Guangming Online on July 25 during the APEC Digital Weeks 2026 in Chengdu City, southwest China's Sichuan Province.

He noted that China is among the world's leading countries in AI development and highlighted the importance of cooperation in areas such as technology sharing, digital literacy improvement and skills development.

"In APEC, economies have different levels of development. China can help us, for example, in technology and skills," Nasution said.

He added that cooperation in areas such as sovereign AI should respect the needs and development paths of different economies while promoting greater collaboration and shared growth across the region.
