TRIPOLI, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Head of Libya's High Council of State Mohamed Takala on Sunday rejected the resignation of Central Bank Governor Naji Issa, calling on him to continue performing his duties.

In a statement, Takala said the governor's continued service was necessary amid the country's current economic circumstances, stressing that his remaining in office was essential to maintaining the stability of financial and monetary conditions and ensuring the continuity of state institutions.

Takala called on the Central Bank governor to continue carrying out his responsibilities, with a focus on controlling public spending and preventing any violations involving foreign exchange and banking transactions.

Earlier this month, Issa formally submitted his resignation. He did not disclose specific reasons for his request in the letter, saying only that the reasons were related to "sensitive matters," according to various media reports.

Issa assumed the post in October 2024, succeeding Sadiq al-Kabir, as part of a political settlement between the House of Representatives and the High Council of State brokered by the UN. ■
