TRIPOLI, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- Two bodies were retrieved on Sunday after a boat carrying irregular migrants capsized off the coast of Tajoura, about 20 km east of the capital Tripoli, said the Libyan Red Crescent Society.
In a statement, the organization's Tripoli branch said its recovery team received a report from the local operations center about the sinking of the boat and immediately headed to the scene. Operations began after obtaining authorization from local prosecutors, with search efforts for remaining victims still ongoing.
Libya's Mediterranean coastline has seen similar incidents repeatedly in recent years amid continued attempts by irregular migrants to cross from Libyan shores toward European coasts. ■
