Surinamese MP: China's people-centered development approach lays foundation for national prosperity

Jeffrey Lau, Surinamese MP, spoke highly of China's people-centered development philosophy in an interview with Guangming Online during the 2026 Interregional Seminar on the Achievement of the SDGs for Parliaments of Developing Countries.

Drawing on the Chinese concept of guojia (country), in which guo means "country" and jia means "family", he said national prosperity is built upon the well-being of families and grassroots communities. He commended China’s ongoing engagement with the public and tailored solutions for specific local problems. He noted such practices bring prolonged betterment to the people first and then the whole nation, laying a solid foundation for steady national progress.
