Jeffrey Lau, a member of the National Assembly of Suriname, has called for stronger international cooperation on artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure that developing countries can share its benefits. He made the remarks in an interview with Guangming Online during the 2026 Interregional Seminar on the Achievement of the SDGs for Parliaments of Developing Countries.
Lau said AI should be open-source and accessible to all, rather than controlled by a few countries. International cooperation is essential to narrowing the AI divide, enabling more countries to develop and use the technology, and ensuring that its progress contributes to sustainable development.
