UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Luke Lindberg of the United States has been appointed executive director of the World Food Programme (WFP), said a UN spokesman on Friday.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Food and Agriculture Organization Director-General Qu Dongyu announced the appointment of Lindberg to succeed Cindy McCain of the United States, said Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman.
The WFP Executive Board confirmed its concurrence with the appointment earlier Friday, said the spokesman.
Lindberg currently serves as under secretary for trade and foreign agricultural affairs at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. ■
