2019 South-South Cooperation to Boost Action for Climate

“The clock is ticking. We have no time to lose. But, through concerted efforts, it is a race that we can win. Tackling climate change will require an unprecedented effort from all sectors of society, including enhanced south-south cooperation and partnerships”, UN Resident Coordinator Nicholas Rosellini said in his opening remarks. To boost ambition, reassure strong political will and accelerate actions to implement the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the 2030 Agenda, the UN Secretary-General António Guterres will host the 2019 Climate Action Summit on 23 September to meet the climate challenge. In the lead up to the summit, today’s event will provide an opportunity for participants from various sectors to exchange ideas and opinions on how to enable South-South Cooperation to drive innovation, cooperation and resource mobilization to scale up solutions to climate change. The event consists of a presentation on South-South Cooperation after BAPA+40 by Ms. XU Xiuli, Dean of China Institute for South-South Cooperation in Agriculture and a panel discussion on South-South Cooperation for Climate Change.

Around 100 participants from the government, diplomatic corps, international organizations and media joined the event.
