BEIJING, February 7(Guangming Online) —People from all walks of life over the country have spontaneously offered support since the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) outbreak in Wuhan, central China’s Hubei Province.

A gift for Chinese New Year

On Jan. 27, the third day of Chinese New Year, a local farmer came to Wuhan Marriott Hotel Hankou, the temporary home for medical teams of nearly 400 doctors and nurses from Beijing and Shanghai arriving on the frontlines to fight against the outbreak.

His name is Qin, a 45-year-old farmer in Wuhan, arriving here after a 40-kilometer riding.

He came driving a farming three-wheeler, with 24 boxes of vegetables, and said, “I heard the medical teams are living here. (so) I brought fresh vegetables.”

On his long journey, he had to ask for directions for not knowing how to use GPS.

Although his hands and cheeks were blown red by the wind, he told the hotel staff with a smile: “These (vegetables) are the freshest. I have only this much”.

Since Wuhan Municipal People’s Government has locked down the whole city to contain the outbreak, vegetables shall sell very well. Yet Mr. Qin refused to be paid.

“I am Chinese.”

On Jan. 31, a white car arrived at Public Security Check Point of Nanjing, east China’s Jiangsu Province. The car pulled up and a man with a facial mask on moved a box off the car and said to the police: “Here is something that I carried back from Turkey.”

It’s a box of facial masks, an important medical supply in great need. The policeman was thankful and asked: “What’s your name, please?”

“I am Chinese.” He answered.

Warm meals in cold winter days

Almost all restaurants are closed in Wuhan for the population flow has been curbed and few people can be seen in the street.

Yet a tiny restaurant in this city has always been busy. They cooked nearly 1000 meal boxes a day, serving specifically medical workers at Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, which has received the majority of infected patients in Wuhan.

Their typical box contains Stewed beef brisket with carrot, Stewed pork and potatoes, a vegetable, and an egg or half a corn. Abundant materials, just for 16 yuan. With the current market prices, they are doing all these below costs.

Since it was too busy, the owner called her parents and siblings to join her, and the whole family worked from morning to night with all hands.

The young woman has been in bed for only four hours a day.

When asked reasons of doing this, she couldn’t get an answer, and scratched her head for a moment, “I browsed the ‘moments’ of some doctors and nurses on WeChat, and could not move on.”

“I just wanted to do this.” She said.
