U.S. player English wins Travelers Championship in historic playoff
WASHINGTON, June 27 (Xinhua) -- American player Harris English defeated compatriot Kramer Hickok on the eighth playoff hole to win the US PGA Travelers Championship on Sunday.
"I knew I had to stay in it. I was tired. Back was getting sore a little bit," English said. "But I knew anything could happen. You've just got to grind out there. It was a good fight, and came down to somebody making birdie finally."
Each player delivered seven playoff pars before English drained a 16-foot birdie putt on the eighth hole to notch his second victory of the season.
"I love being in that spot," English added. "I love being in the hunt of a golf tournament, and to come down the stretch and actually pull it off is an unbelievable feeling."
English shot a 5-under 65 in the final round on Sunday and had a total of 267, while Hickok shoot a three-under 67 and tied English on 13-under 267.
"This was awesome," English said. "The fans were keeping us in it. Hats off to Kramer. What a competitor. What an experience. Glad we gave them a good little show."
