As World War II was about to end, the 7th National Congress of the Communist Party of China was held on April 23, 1945, in northwest China’s Yan’an city.

The Congress established Mao Zedong Thought as the guiding ideology of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and wrote it into the CPC Constitution. Mao Zedong Thought is a scientific guiding ideology formed by members of the CPC represented mainly by Mao Zedong after combining the basic principles of Marxism-Leninism with the realities of the Chinese revolution.

Mao Zedong Thought guided the CPC and led the Chinese people towards victory against not only the Japanese fascist forces, but also the army led by Kuomintang (KMT), and eventually in 1949 the People’s Republic of China was established.

After the founding of New China the Party’s guiding ideologies have been joined by Deng Xiaoping Theory, the Important Thought of “Three Represents”, the Scientific Outlook on Development, and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. In the process of self-improvement and development, the CPC has kept abreast of the times and constantly embraced innovation.
