The Chinese Dance Drama "Wing Chun": A Shenzhen-Style Art Performance Wins Applause in Paris

From October 4th to 10th, 2024, a Chinese dance drama entitled "Wing Chun" fascinated the audience at the Congress Palace (Palais des Congrès), the Parisian icon building. The dance drama, with an inspiration from Wing Chun, a type of Chinese Kungfu, performed by a troupe from Chinese city Shenzhen, won warm applause in all its three shows. With precise actions and excellent performance by Chinese dancers, the drama fully displays the profoundness of Kungfu and the unique glamour of Chinese culture.

The tour show has attracted many French influencers. Akamz, a TikTok dancing creator with more than 24.3 million followers and a lover of Chinese culture and martial arts, went backstage to meet the leading dancers Chang Hongji and Zhang Yashu and asked them to teach him some Kungfu movements after the show. Akamz said that he was totally captivated by the show and he hoped to visit Shenzhen in the future.

Athena Sofia, a French fashion influencer watched  “Wing Chun” with her husband, Samy Naceri, who had won the Best Actor award at the 59th Cannes International Film Festival. Sofia wore a red dress especially for the dance show as she was aware that the red color symbolizes good luck in Chinese culture and she wished the show a complete success. After the show, Sofia went backstage and discussed with the dancers. In their conversation, Sofia said that she liked all female characters in the drama and felt the strength and independence they represented. Another thing that amazed Sofia was the dancers’ clothing material, gambiered Canton gauze. She said she would love to have such a dress.

In his interview, the audience expressed their positive response to the unique creative and superb performance of the show.
