SINGAPORE, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- China emerged as the largest source market for Singapore's Changi Airport in 2024, with passenger traffic nearly doubling from 2023 and surpassing the pre-COVID level by 6 percent, according to a report released by the airport on Wednesday.
The top five passenger markets for 2024 were China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and Thailand, the report said.
Changi Airport recorded 67.7 million passenger movements in 2024, marking a 14.8 percent year-on-year increase. This was 99.1 percent of the passenger movements recorded in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
December 2024 was the busiest month of the year, with 6.4 million passenger movements. This marked the first time monthly traffic surpassed six million since December 2019.
On the cargo front, Changi saw growth across all cargo categories - exports, imports, and transshipments - fueled by significant improvements in cargo flows between Singapore and China, as well as the United States.
