On the evening of July 12, the award ceremony of the third “Global Youth Bilingual Broadcast Announcing and Anchoring Contest” hosted by Communication University of China (CUC) and organized by the School of International Studies (SIS) was held in the auditorium of CUC with great success.
Zhang Shuting, president of Communication University of China (CUC); Chai Jianping, vice president of CUC; António da Costa Gaspar, education counselor of Mozambique Embassy in China; Luis Felipe Yonezawa Fernandes, head of the education department of Brazilian Embassy in China; Yan Chengsheng, vice president of Radio and Television Federation of China (RTCF); Xue Lisheng, deputy editor-in-chief of Internet News Center of China (INC); Qiu Guohong, Vice President of the Joint Council of Former Diplomats of China; Wu Sike, former Ambassador to Egypt, Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, former Special Envoy of the Chinese Government for Middle East Issues, and member of the Foreign Policy Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, and Zhang Tuo, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Cuba, attended the ceremony and presented the award.
As a unique bridge between China and the world, bilingual hosts and anchors are emerging as a vital force on the international new media stage. Centered on the theme “My China Story,” this year’s competition highlights authenticity and emotional resonance from individual perspectives, offering diverse and contemporary interpretations of China’s narrative.
Rooted in the mission of cultivating globally minded talent, the event is dedicated to identifying and nurturing a new generation of bilingual communicators who possess both professional skills and cross-cultural empathy. By building a platform for cultural exchange, the competition fosters dialogue and mutual appreciation between Chinese and global civilizations, offering international audiences a panoramic view of China and enhancing cross-cultural understanding and resonance.
The third Global Youth Bilingual Broadcast Announcing and Anchoring Contest officially launched its global call for entries on March 16, 2025. By the submission deadline of May 30, a total of 643 participants from 35 countries and regions had registered for the competition. After preliminary screening, 608 entries advanced to the evaluation stage.
The submissions spanned 28 languages, including Chinese, English, Spanish, Korean, French, Bengali, German, Hungarian, Portuguese, Japanese, Malay, Russian, Kazakh, Bulgarian, Burmese, and Mongolian. Contestants came from 180 institutions worldwide, including universities, secondary schools, and professional organizations.
The panel of judges comprised leading scholars from renowned Chinese universities, senior professionals from the media industry, and international experts. Following a rigorous evaluation process, including preliminary and final rounds, 111 participants stood out: 3 Gold Award winners, 5 Silver Award winners, 8 Bronze Award winners, 23 recipients of Special Awards, 61 Excellence Award winners, and 11 winners of the Most Promising Overseas Participant Award. Additionally, 9 institutions were honored with the Outstanding Organization Award.
Alberto Blanco Penate, a Cuban international student from Peking University, shared his personal reflections on growth and self-discovery during his studies in China through a speech titled ‘My China Story'.
Caspar Leonard Westerman, a young Dutch cellist from the Cologne University of Music, and OHORI RIO, a Japanese student from the Class of 2023 majoring in International Chinese Education at the Communication University of China, shared their delightful experiences and impressions of Beautiful China.
