CAIRO, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Egypt expressed deep concern over escalating tensions and border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan that have resulted in military confrontations and casualties, the Foreign Ministry said Friday.
In a statement, Egypt urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and stressed the need for intensified diplomatic efforts to defuse the crisis and prevent further escalation. It also underscored the importance of prioritizing political and diplomatic solutions to safeguard regional security and stability.
As part of efforts to monitor developments and help contain tensions, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar. Dar briefed Abdelatty on the situation and recent developments, according to the Egyptian statement.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's concern and called for de-escalation and restraint to prevent further instability in the region. ■
