Launching ceremony of micro documentary series on Beijing’s huge changes held in Beijing

BEIJING, Nov. 12(Guangming Online)— The launching ceremony of micro documentary series “40 Years on—Beijing Blooming with Us” was jointly held by the Information Office of Beijing Municipality, Guangming Daily and GMW.cn (official website of Guangming Daily) in Beijing on Monday. In the micro documentary series, 40 foreign experts talk about the changes they have witnessed in Beijing as the country celebrates the 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up.

Du Feijin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and Head of the its Publicity Department, and Zhang Zheng, Editor-in-Chief of Guangming Daily, attended the launching ceremony and delivered speeches. Guests from the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, Office of the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, publicity departments of Beijing’s CPC district committees, over 30 media agencies, some social media celebrities as well as 14 foreign guests attended.

In his speech, Du Feijin expressed that Beijing, together with China, has made remarkable achievements and realized unprecedented historic changes since the reform and opening-up began 40 years ago. It has developed from an ancient capital with profound history into an influential cosmopolis and is moving forward to become a world -class livable city.

Stories about reform and opening-up in Beijing are written by thousands upon thousands of “Beijingers” among whom are many foreign experts. We planned the micro documentary series “40 Years on—Beijing Blooming with Us” to leave a unique growth diary of the city through the lens. We believe that everyone can deeply feel that reform and opening-up is the most distinctive characteristic of contemporary China.

Zhang Zheng stated that Guangming Daily has a special relationship with the reform and opening-up. On May 11, 1978, Guangming Daily published the special commentator article “Practice is the Sole Criterion for Testing Truth”, inspiring heated discussion nationwide on the criterion for testing truth, announcing the dawning of reform and opening-up.

In the following decades, Guangming Daily Group has been its recorder as well as its active pusher. In the new era, Guangming Daily further displays its position and characteristic in the fields of theory and culture. It constantly explores and develops convergent media products, and the micro documentary series integrate Guangming’s characteristics and a Beijing theme.

Lu Xiangao, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Guangming Daily, said in his welcoming speech that the micro documentary series, a special gift celebrating the 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up, is a significant move for the Group to shift its focus to the cyberspace in answer to President Xi Jinping’s call. It’s also a test for implementing the CPC Central Committee’s deployment regarding media convergence.

In the micro documentary series, 40 foreign experts from 22 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa, North America and Latin America are invited by the Information Office of Beijing Municipality and GMW.cn to talk about their life and work in Beijing so as to show the huge changes in the lifestyles, city image, innovation capacity and international communication in Beijing. Chinese and foreign audience can feel the fruitful achievements of Beijing over the past 40 years of reform and opening-up through their stories.

The micro documentary series will be published at least one episode per day on platforms including new media matrix of the Information Office of Beijing Municipality, all media channels of GMW.cn and other foreign and domestic media and social media from Nov. 12.
